The National Certificate in Whanau/Family and Foster Care
This nationally-recognised qualification in caregiving is based around the courses that are trained in our programme.
Attendance at courses, in itself, does not provide the qualification. It is necessary to demonstrate that as a caregiver you have incorporated the knowledge and behaviours into your practice.
Each programme course is linked to unit standards registered on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Framework.
Assessors who work for the programme will advise those course participants who want to pursue the qualifications, what material they will need to produce to achieve the unit standards.
Each unit standard brings a number of credits towards the National Certificate.
Note: Assessment of unit standards is underway for 2006 in four pilot ares:
-
Auckland
-
Hamilton
-
Christchurch &
-
Timaru
For further details, contact the Executive Officer of the NZ Family and Fostercare Federation
Not all unit standards will be assessed within the programme. A first aid certificate will be required. A number of organisations including St John and Red Cross provide the required certificate (unit standards).
The Treaty of Waitangi an Noho Marae unit standards may be obtained through a number of tertiary providers.
